Hi, Lisa. Guess what? I've just been on one of those Original London Walks. It was quite an
experience. I'm still shaking!
Great. Which walk did you do?
Jack the Ripper! Have you heard of him?
It rings a bell, though I'm not too sure. Wasn't he a killer or something like that?
That's right. Nobody really knows exactly who the 'Ripper' was. It's a kind of nickname, you
know. Well, people believe that he killed lots of women on the streets of London. He used
to kill them with a knife
'Ripper!' See?
You make it sound like 'Psycho'.
Oh, it is. Many books have been written on the subject. Even films have been made.
Yes, I have heard of it, now that I think about it
but it was such a long time ago. Are people
still interested?
Yes, they are. The main reason is that, despite many interesting theories, the murders have
never been solved.
But surely it must be boring. After all, everything has changed so much that there can't be
much point to it, can there?
You'd be surprised, Lisa. I thought that too. Anyway, this guide we had was unbelievably
good at his job. He brought everything to life.
Really? Tell me more.
Well, this guide, Don was his name, was a really gifted performer. I think he must be an
actor because his timing was perfect. As he took us around the different places in London he
could bring the Ripper story to life. At one point I was even scared! Not only that, he knew
how to bring some humour into the act too. Quite brilliant!
Sam, you've convinced me! Next time I come to London could we go on one of those walks?
Why not? I wouldn't mind doing the Jack the Ripper Walk just once more!
